The Block Editor allows users to build a template out of individual blocks that contain specific, predetermined kinds of data.
It is currently not possible to create new Email Sends/Templates using this editor, and as part of our continuing plans to deprecate the Block editor, cloning Email Sends/Templates using the Block Editor while on version 12.1+ will automatically update their editor type to the Freestyle editor.
From version 12.2, this will be released to and applied automatically to all versions as we move to fully deprecate the old editors.
Goals
- Learn how to add text, image, and HTML content to a Block Editor template
- Dynamics 365
Add Content to a Block Editor Template
You'll need to start by selecting a layout.
After you've done that, you see something like this:
Right click the block you want to add content to, and select Add Content from the menu.
NOTE: Add Content will change to Edit Content once there is content in the block.
First you’ll choose the orientation of the block from the Choose Orientation Wizard. This will be the orientation of the one block you chose only. You will be able to select the orientation of each individual block as you edit them. Choose your layout for this block and select Next.
NOTE: You will also see a “form or survey” block type here if you are building a Landing Page using the block editor. This block type allows you to embed an existing ClickDimensions form or survey into the Landing Page block.
NOTE: If you choose a layout, add content, and then want to choose a different starting layout later on, doing so will clear the content from the template. You will see a warning before this happens to alert you of this
Image Manager
For any choice with an image, the Image Manager appears.
In the first column you can add and rename folders in the first column to keep your layouts organized. Just use the buttons at the top to do this, and right-click the folder to rename it.
NOTE: If you move images into a different folder, it changes the URL. So if you've already sent out an email with that image then no one will be able to see the image any more. If you've just placed it into your template, you'll need to delete it and insert it again.
NOTE: The image manager for the Block Editor is not the same as the image manager for the Freestyle and Drag and Drop editors. If you are using both the Block Editor and one of those editors, you will need to upload images into the image manager for both editors.
To upload an image choose Upload.
Click the Select button, and locate the image you want to use. Click Upload when you've chosen your image(s). Your file will appear in the right column. Click on the file you want to use.
If you want to hyperlink this image, place the URL in the field at the top of the window.
Then click Next. If you have an image only block, it shows you a preview, select Finish to insert the content into the block.
NOTE: If you add an image to the Block Editor template using the Image Only block, there will be padding automatically added around the image, causing the image width to max out at 580px (the max width of an email template in the Block Editor is 600px). If you instead add the image using the Image Manager in an HTML block, it will fill the entire width.
If you use an Image Only block, the image will always be centered in the block. If you use an HTML block, you can use the alignment tools in the block to reposition the image.
When using the Image Manager in ClickDimensions, you do not have to host the images on a separate web server for your readers to be able to see the images in their email. ClickDimensions takes care of that for you. If you want to host your images on your web server, or if they are already hosted, you can change the image’s Source URL. Right click on the image and click Properties. Near the bottom there is an Image Source field. Enter the URL of the image that is hosted on your web server, and click Save.

If you have text as well, the Set Text window appears.

If you chose HTML from the Layouts you will see this window.
You can find out more about what you can do in the HTML Editor here.
After you've entered your content, press Next. You'll be shown a preview, press Finish, and your content will be placed in the block.
