Exclusion via the ClickDimensions Unsubscribe Code Snippet (Global Unsubscribe)
If a reader unsubscribes via the ClickDimensions Unsubscribe Code Snippet found in email footers, this is a global unsubscribe. This Lead, Contact or Account will not longer receive any email communications sent by you through ClickDimensions. Using the code snippet is the most basic unsubscribe functionality provided by ClickDimensions.
When a recipient clicks on the link in the Unsubscribe code snippet, it will open a new page that will ask the recipient to confirm that they want to unsubscribe. This page is default and cannot be altered.
NOTE: Additionally, the list unsubscribe header is used by some email clients (like Gmail) to provide an Unsubscribe link within the email client. Unfortunately, whether that link displays is out of ClickDimensions' or our customers' control. Gmail, for example, only renders the link for the domains that they deem have good reputationThis unsubscribe header link will look something like this:
Recipients may also click here to unsubscribe or block the emails.
If that person clicks Confirm, ClickDimensions then creates an Unsubscribe record in your CRM. You can see the Unsubscribe records in Messaging > Unsubscribes.
You can also see individual Unsubscribe records in the recipient’s Lead/Contact/Account record under the related menu.
The Bulk Email field on their Lead or Contact record (in the details view)will also change to Do Not Allow.
The next time this person is a recipient in an Email Send record (whether by adding the personal individually or if the person is part of a marketing list), ClickDimensions will see that this recipient has Do Not Allow Bulk Emails on their record and the recipient will be excluded from the mailing.
Please note that if the "Email" field is set to "Do Not Allow", this will also cause recipients to be excluded but this field is not automatically updated via the ClickDimensions Unsubscribe process.
.
When a recipient is excluded from a mailing ClickDimensions will also create an Excluded Recipient record in the Email Send record. This record will contain the associated Lead/Contact/Account record and the reason why the recipient was excluded. In this case, the reason will be Unsubscribed.
A Lead/Contact/Account will be able to receive emails sent through ClickDimensions again if you delete the Unsubscribe record and change the Bulk Email field on their record back to Allow.
Inactive Unsubscribes are still checked by the ClickDimensions service, so deactivating an Unsubscribe record will not allow a recipient to receive emails and they will continue to be excluded from emails.
Exclusion via ClickDimensions Subscription Management
Subscription Management allows your recipients to opt out of certain Subscription Lists. This provides more options to your readers instead of providing only the Unsubscribe Code Snippet.
ClickDimensions creates Subscription Preferences records in CRM via ClickDimensions Subscription Management. Here, we will show you how ClickDimensions excludes those who opted out of certain Subscription Lists.
When someone opts out of a Subscription List, an Unsubscribe record is created in CRM. This is the same type of record ClickDimensions creates for the Unsubscribe Code Snippet, however there is one key difference.
In the case of Subscription Management, the Subscription List that was opted out of is now related to this Unsubscribe record. You will be able to see the Subscription List(s) by opening the Unsubscribe record, and the Subscription Lists that have been opted out of will appear in the grid on the record.
You can see all of the lists that this Lead/Contact/Account has opted out of here.
Remember that all Subscription Lists contain Marketing List associations. The next time you send an email to a Marketing List that is a part of a Subscription List, any recipients that have opted out of that Subscription List will be excluded. Let’s see an example.
This contact has opted-out of the Newsletter Subscription List , so there is now an Unsubscribe record created in his Contact record, which also contains the Newsletter Subscription List (as we see in the image above).
Below is a screenshot of what the Subscription List record looks like in CRM. Associated with the Newsletter Subscription List, there are two Marketing Lists:
1. Newsletter – Contacts
2. Newsletter – Leads
The contact is a member of the Newsletter -Contacts Marketing List. The next time we send an email to that Marketing List, the contact will be excluded because of the Unsubscribe record that resides in his Contact record. When you send an email with ClickDimensions, ClickDimensions queries the Unsubscribes records against your Marketing Lists set to receive the Email Send, this is how we know who to exclude from sending an email to.
Manually Unsubscribe a Lead, Contact, or Account
The two processes mentioned above happen automatically when the recipient submits information to ClickDimensions. However, there is a way to manually unsubscribe a person in CRM. Open the Lead/Contact/Account record for the person, and scroll down to Contact Preferences.
Under this section, there is a Bulk Email field (due to CRM customization, the field could have been renamed or moved). If you select Do Not Allow for this field, ClickDimensions will respect this field as a global unsubscribe, and this person will be excluded from all mailings sent through ClickDimensions. ClickDimensions will also refrain from sending emails to a contact whose Email Field is set to Do Not Allow.
This method is fine if you only have one lead or contact record for the customer who wishes to be unsubscribed, but may be a bit inefficient if that customer has duplicate records. In this scenario, you can more quickly unsubscribe all of the records by manually creating an Unsubscribe record and adding the customer's email address to it. Begin by navigating to Messaging > Unsubscribes, then click the New button.
On the new record, you can specify the email address that should be unsubscribed, associate the Unsubscribe with an account, lead or contact record, then save the record.
Whereas setting the Bulk Email field on a lead or contact to Do Not Allow unsubscribes that specific lead or contact record, it does not affect any other records with the same email address. The Unsubscribe record will unsubscribe any lead, contact, or account that has the email address that is listed on the record. You can also associate a lead or contact with the Unsubscribe record, but this is only done so you can find that Unsubscribe record in the lead or contact's related records menu.
