By default ClickDimensions will send to anyone for whom there is a valid email address, no unsubscribe record, and no opt-out for a particular subscription list. Changing to the opt-in only method will enforce a different approach and ClickDimensions will only send emails to the recipients with a subscription list opt-in.
When will we see the changes ClickDimensions has made in our system?
They are available to you now, you will need to update your ClickDimensions version to 9.2.3+. For anyone using CRM 2011 the version is 8.2.2+. See how to update here.
Do I have to switch to the opt-in subscription management?
No, you do not. It is completely up to you. If you are already following the regulations, you can choose to switch or not.
Do I need to re-permission my contacts?
If you already have proof that they opted-in to receive the emails you are sending, no you do not. This proof does not need to be using ClickDimensions features.
What do I need to do before converting to Opt-In Subscription Management if I don't use subscription lists for all of my marketing emails now?
If you have proof that the people you send to have opted-in to receiving the emails you do not currently have a subscription list for, create a subscription list for that type of content, and add the marketing lists you use to that subscription list.
What if I am not sure if I have proof of opt-ins and have not switched to the opt-in subscription management yet?
- If you do not have any subscription lists at the moment, first create the one(s) you need.
- Create or update your subscription management page (if you do not already have one).
- Make sure you are getting the people who opt-in on the right marketing lists using one of these methods: Campaign Automation, Action, or a Workflow
- If you already had subscription lists, remove any marketing lists of people who do not have opt-ins for (anyone you want to re-permission). But keep those marketing lists (just detach them from the subscription list - do this by going to the marketing list and removing the subscription list from the subscription list field. Do not go to the subscription list and click the trashcan/delete on the marketing list; this will completely delete the marketing list.).
- Send a re-permissioning campaign to the lists of people who you just removed (this could be everyone, if you want to re-permission all people). This campaign should have a link to your subscription page.
This will create preference records so you have proof of their opt-in.
How do I re-permission after converting?
If you had marketing lists associated to the subscription lists when you switched, and you're not sure that those people should have been opted-in:
- Create unsubscribes for all of the people who you are not sure you have permissions for.
- Create re-permissioning campaign email(s) that link to your subscription page.
- You will need to mark the re-permissioning email as transactional in order to send it.
- If they opt-in this will create opt-ins and remove their unsubscribe.
If you did NOT have any marketing lists associated to subscription lists when you switched:
- Create re-permissioning campaign email(s) that link to your subscription page.
- You will need to mark the re-permissioning email as transactional in order to send it.
- This will create preference records so you have proof of their opt-in.
Can I switch to opt-in only for my EU contacts?
No, the switch is for your entire system.
How do I add opt-ins from sources other than a ClickDimensions survey or form after I've switched to opt-in subscription management?
You will need to use the ClickDimensions Import Tool and select the option to create subscription preferences.
This will create preference records so you have proof of their opt-in.
What are the implications of the existing contacts/leads/accounts in our Dynamics environment?
If they are on marketing lists which are associated to a subscription list, they will be considered opted-in to receiving emails associated to that subscription list, unless they are currently opted-out when you begin the switch process to the opt-in subscription management.
Will everyone be switched to the opt-in subscription method eventually?
No.
Will ClickDimensions stop sending to our contacts who do not have opt-ins?
Only if you have switched to the opt-in subscription management and the email is marked as not transactional.
