Across our helpsite you may have seen reference to both _cldee and _clde link tracking parameters. These are two distinct link tracking parameters used in different scenarios. This article explains the difference between these two parameters.
_cldee: Automatically Track Links in Click Email Sends
When a you build an email in one of our email designers and send it as an Email Send, tracked links will be given a _cldee parameter, which represents the recipients email address using Click Proprietary encryption then Base64 encoding and is used alongside the EmailID and recipient identifier to connect link clicks to the appropriate Email Send and Lead/Contact.
_clde: Manually Track Links in non-Click Emails
When sending an email send using Outlook (without Inboxcast) or another standard mail client (i.e. the email is not a Click Email Send), you can manually add a _clde parameter to links within that email in order to track clicks on them. This is explained in our Track Clicks from Regular Emails, DMs, Etc. and Track Clicks on Links from Outlook Emails articles.
The _clde parameter is never automatically added to Click email sends.
