Campaign Automation emails receive the same statistics of bounces, blocks, unsubscribes and more on the related Email Send record as well as provide some overall stats for you to see the performance of these sends. However, for bounced and blocked statistics, you may want to take a closer look to see how many of your recipients couldn't be reached.
How is this helpful? It gives you some insight into recipients who may need to be unblocked, may need to update their email address, or may just need to be removed from your marketing lists. The below Advanced Find queries show how you can search for Soft Bounces, Hard Bounces, and Blocked emails.
Soft Bounces
Soft Bounces are stored in the Email Events records as a single type—Soft Bounces. All Email Events (and Sent Emails) records inherit the Campaign Automation relationship from their parent Email Send record. So you can query on Email Events related to a specific, or any, Campaign Automation.
Your query will be in the Email Events entity and include two lines of criteria.
- Campaign Automation > Equals > [select Campaign Automation]
This can also be set to Campaign Automation > Contains Data if you want to see all soft bounces associated with any Campaign Automation. - Type > Equals > Soft Bounce
Hard Bounces
Searching for related hard bounces is similar to searching for soft bounces. Your query will still contain two lines of criteria and run on the Email Events entity.
- Campaign Automation > Equals > [select Campaign Automation]
- Type > Equals > DNS Failure, Generic Bounce: No RCPT, and Invalid Recipient
These three types are seen as hard bounces. One type we that we don't view as a hard bounce but is treated as such is Spam Content. So you may choose to include that type in this query or in a separate one if you want to monitor spam complaints as well.
Blocked Emails
Identifying blocked emails associated with your Campaign Automation emails is slightly different than bounces because blocked emails are identified on the Excluded Recipients (or Excluded Emails) entity which does not have a direct relationship to the Campaign Automation entity. That means that when you query for any type of Excluded Recipients records associated with a Campaign Automation, you have to do so through the Email Send entity.
So your Advanced Find will use the following criteria.
- Reason > Equals > Blocked
You can certainly search for other excluded reasons if you like, or remove the Reason line entirely so all Excluded Recipients records (regardless of the reason type) are displayed. - Email Send
This is selected from the Related portion of the dropdown list.
- Campaign Automation > Equals > [select Campaign Automation]
Any of these views can be customized with certain columns showing in the results. You can also save these views and then pull them into your own reporting dashboards as needed.
