Animated GIFs: maximum 15 MB
Animated GIFs are not supported on Instagram, and if uploaded, the first frame will be used as the image.
Recommended Image Sizes
In short, we recommend using the following image sizes for optimal sharing on each network:
Facebook: 1200 x 630 px
X (Twitter): 1024 x 512 px
LinkedIn: 1200 x 627 px
Instagram Story: 1080 x 1920 px
Instagram Post: 1080 x 1080 px
For more details, you can read the per-channel recommendations below.
Link Previews
Facebook link previews are generated automatically based on Open Graph meta tags. In some cases, you can also customize the preview image to optimize the final display.
To ensure the best quality, use images that are at least 1200 x 630 pixels for high-resolution devices. At the minimum, use images that are 600 x 315 pixels to display link page posts with larger images.
Timeline Photos
Facebook timeline photos are resized to a width of 476 pixels. For best results, use images with one of the following compositions:
Portrait: 714 x 476 px, 3:2
Square: 476 x 476 px, 1:1
Landscape: 316 x 476 px, 2:3
Images that contain more than 20% text may result in reduced delivery.
X (Twitter)
Cards and in-stream photos
X (Twitter) automatically scales down and resizes timeline photos to fit 506 pixels wide. To avoid unwanted cropping, follow these recommendations:
- Recommended aspect ratio: 2:1
- Recommended sizes: 506 x 253 pixels or 1024 x 512 pixels for images that are meant for resizing.
X (Twitter) does not support uploading non-animated GIF files through its API. Non-animated GIFs uploaded to X may fail with a generic "X API Error" message. To avoid this issue, convert non-animated GIFs to JPG or PNG before uploading.
LinkedIn Company Page Updates
When adding images to company updates, keep these guidelines in mind for image display size:
- Recommended aspect ratio: either 3:2 or 16:9.
- Images must be an minimum of 360 x 640 pixels and a maximum of 2430 x 4320 pixels.
- Images on mobile will not be cropped. Images of other ratios will show in the full with subtle white padding.
- Animated GIFs must be no more than 250 frames.
Sharing Photos
The maximum image resolution for Instagram is 1080 x 1920 pixels. Higher resolutions will be scaled down to that size. The recommended image resolutions for Instagram are:
Square: 1080 x 1080 px, 1:1
Portrait: 1080 x 1350 px, 4:5
Grid Preview: 1015 x 1350 px, 3:4
Landscape: 1080 x 566 px, 1.91:1
Story: 1080 x 1920 px, 9:16
Thumbnail for Instagram Reels
- The cover photo ratio for a Reel should be 9:16 to avoid cropping or blank space.
- If the aspect ratio of the original isn't 9:16, Instagram will crop the image and use the middle most 9:16 rectangle for the reel's cover photo.
- For your feed posts, Reels cover photos will be cropped to the center-most 3:4 square.

Bluesky
Bluesky supports up to 4 images per post. For best results, use images with a maximum side length of approximately 1000 pixels.
