New customers will receive a welcome email with a link to the ClickDimensions registration page. The registration page is where you will go to enter your Dynamics environment's information to request your copy of the ClickDimensions solution. The instructions below are for Dynamics 365 and CRM 2011/2013/2015/2016 (both on-premise and Online).
Table of Contents
Registering
Once you click the link to the ClickDimensions registration page, provide the following information in the registration form to obtain a copy of the ClickDimensions solution:
Data Center Location
Select the Data Center that most closely aligns with your organization's location.
Deployment Type
Specify whether you will be using an Online or On-Premise environment.
Microsoft CRM Version
Specify which version of CRM your environment is on.
Deployment Type and CRM Version can be found by navigating to Settings > About in Dynamics and looking at the version information in the header banner.
Click Next.
Authentication Method
As of Verison 10.5, Clickdimensions now offers three authentication methods to register with:
- Username and Password - Original authentication method that requires the credentials for an active Dynamics user that we will use as the service user for the registered environment. Note: This option will not work for Dynamics 365 Online organizations, as this method of connection is beginning to be deprecated. For more details about the deprecation, please see this Microsoft article.
- Application User (preferred method) - Allows the use of a service account that does not need a Dynamics user license and may help mitigate Microsoft API limits. For more details, please see our Application User article here.
- Service Principal Authentication (Single Sign On/SSO) - A session and user authentication service that permits a user to use one set of login credentials to access multiple applications. For more information and details on enabling this, please see our SSO article here.
Office365 Account
If you are using Dynamics Online, authentication to Dynamics uses Office 365 credentials. Please check the box to indicate that you are using Office 365 credentials to log into Dynamics. Your Dynamics Online login will look similar to this if you are using Office 365 to authenticate:
Service User for Username and Password Authentication
Before determining the service user, please note that we recommend creating a dedicated user to set as your ClickDimensions Service User. This dedicated user must be an active user in your environment and have the correct license; their Administrative mode should be set to read-write, with the proper Security Roles. If you choose to set an actual person as your ClickDimensions Service User, ClickDimensions functionality can be disrupted if they change their login credentials.
Populate this field with the name of the Dynamics user who will be leveraged by the ClickDimensions solution to manage communications between Dynamics and ClickDimensions. This user must be a Dynamics Administrator.
The value placed in this field should match the value in the User Name field on the corresponding User record in Dynamics. However, if you are using ADFS 3.0 for an on-premises IFD setup, enter the username in the format DOMAIN\username. The Active Directory Domain is only required if you are On-Premise. To find this, open a User record in Dynamics and you'll see the Domain Logon in the format of "DOMAIN\username".
Once registration is complete and the ClickDimensions solution has been installed, you will have the option to instead use Single Sign On (SSO) Authentication for managing communications between Dynamics and ClickDimensions. Instructions for enabling SSO can be found in the ClickDimensions Single Sign On (SSO) Authentication article.
Password
The password of the user who will be set as your ClickDimensions Service User.
Contact Email
Enter the email address that you would like the solution and installer sent to, as well as any updated solutions when requested. In other words, this should be the email of the Installation Point of Contact.
Unique Organization Name
You can find the Unique Organization Name by navigating to Settings > Customizations > Developer Resources in Dynamics. Note that in some Dynamics Online organizations, the unique organization name is different from the friendly name in the URL.
- In Dynamics Online and CRM 2016 the Developer Resources page will look similar to this:
- In CRM 2013/2015
MS CRM URL
The external Dynamics/CRM URL where your environment is reachable from the internet, for example: https://org.crm.dynamics.com.
For Online environments, you can find this by going to your environment, looking at the URL bar and selecting the highlighted component of the URL.
For on-premise CRM environments, use the full URL prior to main.aspx.
Next Steps
Click Register, and a copy of the solution will be sent to the specified contact email address. Now you're ready for installing and deploying ClickDimensions.
Troubleshooting Registration Errors
If you have a problem registering, please try the following Test Registration Form which will provide a detailed error. The Test Your environment's External Access article provides links to each data center and Dynamics version's test registration form.
If you require assistance with registering, please send a screenshot of what you have filled in on the test registration form and the error to our support team.
FAQs
How do I install ClickDimensions in multiple environments?
If you need a full, working version of ClickDimensions in more than your Production Dynamics environment, please contact your CSM to purchase the additional solutions. Your CSM will need to initiate the solution before you can register for it.
Can I reuse my ClickDimensions solution in other environments?
You can use your Production environment's solution in a Dev environment only if you're using it for visibility and not to send emails or perform other ClickDimensions actions. (All the ClickDimensions plugins and workflows would need to be disabled.) If you need to have a full, working dev instance, then please contact your CSM to purchase a solution file for your dev environment.
