Use the Video Studio timeline to trim, split, and adjust your video clips. This allows you to remove unwanted sections and focus on the most important parts of your content.
Trim a Video Clip
Trim a clip to control when it starts and ends.
- Select the video clip on the timeline.
- Hover over the beginning or end of the clip.
- Click and drag the edge:
- Drag inward to shorten the clip
- Drag outward to extend the clip (if additional footage is available)
The preview updates automatically as you adjust the clip length.
Split a Video Clip
Split a clip to divide it into smaller sections.
- Move the playhead to the point where you want to split the clip.
- Select the clip.
- Click Split.
The clip is divided into two separate segments at the playhead position.
Remove Unwanted Sections
After splitting a clip, you can remove sections you don't need.
- Split the clip at the start and end of the section you want to remove.
- Select the unwanted segment.
- Click Delete.
The remaining clips stay in place on the timeline.
Adjust Clip Position
Move clips to control when the appear in the video.
- Click and drag a clip on the timeline.
- Move it left or right to the desired position.
This allows you to:
- Reorder content
- Align clips with captions or text
- Adjust timing between segments
Adjust Audio
If your video includes audio, you can adjust it per clip, mute segments, or show/hide the audio view for easier editing.
- Select the clip in the timeline. The toolbar appears at the top of the editor.
- Click Volume Slider.
- Adjust the audio volume for that specific clip. Drag the slider to increase or decrease the sound as needed, or set it all the way to mute.
- You can toggle the audio view on or off to see audio waveforms for more detailed editing.
- Use the Split tool to divide a clip into sections. After splitting, you can set different volume levels for mute individual segments - mute just one part while keeping audio on others, for example.
This give you precise per-clip and per-segment audio editing, without affecting the rest of your video.
Preview Your Edits
Use the playback controls to review your changes.
- Move the playhead to the desired position.
- Click Play.
- Review transitions between cuts and overall timing.
The editor automatically plays back all applied edits.
Tips
- Split clips before trimming for more precise control.
- Use short clips to keep videos engaging.
- Review audio levels after trimming.
- Always preview the full video before exporting.
Note
- Edits made in the timeline are non-destructive until export.
