Send an Email Send
To send your Email Send, begin by clicking Send.
In order to send a non-Transactional Email Send to any number of recipients, the Email Template MUST include the Global Unsubscribe code snippet or a direct link to a Subscription Management Page. A link to a page on your website or a Landing Page on which a Subscription Page is embedded will not suffice.
If you are sending to more than 1 recipient, a confirmation screen will display. This screen will contain different text depending upon whether the Transactional field on the Email Send is set to Yes or No. This is the Transactional Email Send confirmation screen:
and this is the non-Transactional Email Send confirmation screen:
Here you will need to check the checkbox to certify that your recipients have opted into receiving your mail (if the email is not Transactional) or that the Email Send is transactional and does not contain marketing material.
You will also see the total number of recipients listed (prior to de-duplication and exclusions), and if the Email Send is set to undergo a split test, the number of recipients included in the test groups will also be listed.
FreeMarker Errors:
If the Email Send contains any FreeMarker errors, you will see the below pop-up alerting you to the issue instead of the confirmation screen.FreeMarker formatting issues can prevent an Email Send from being processed and sent out properly, so it is highly recommended that you take a moment to look into the errors and correct them prior to sending the email. What Happens Next?
Once you have clicked Approve and an Email Send is sent, it will go through a few statuses until it reaches the Sent status and you might see it change Email Send Views (Drafts > Scheduled > Sent). If sending to multiple recipients who share the same email address, then these will be de-duplicated and only one of those recipients will be sent the email to prevent them from receiving multiple copies. The recipient that is chosen will be based off of the first result returned by CRM and is not determined by our service.
Status field & Progress Bar
At the top of the Sent Email Send record, you will see the indication of the Email Send's status in the "Status" field. This will reflect the status of sending the Email Send on our cloud platform.
As of version 9.19, this field will automatically update (without needing to be refreshed) to show you the current status of your Email Send.
Quickly after approving to send an Email Send it will have a Status go from Draft to Pending and then to In Progress.
The In Progress status will have a Progress Bar display below that status for a short time. That progress bar simply shows you a bit more detail on where your Email Send is in the send process. Once the Status has changed from In Progress to Sent, the progress bar will disappear.
Email Send Views Change
ClickDimensions automatically moves the email to the "Scheduled" view of Email Sends. When the record is in the Scheduled view, a workflow called ClickDimensions Execute Send is activated. This workflow is what will actually send the email to our email servers, and the emails will then be sent to the recipients.
Most emails process quickly and will seem to immediately appear in the "Sent" view. You may not see it in the "Scheduled" view first.
If you chose to send your email later (Send Immediately is set to "No" on Email Send record), the email will sit in the "Scheduled" view until it is sent.
After it is sent, it moves to the "Sent" view. This is called a Sent Email Send and is where you will be able to view statistics on your mailing.
